Privacy Policy
Ourlatex.life (“OurLatexLife”) is built around collecting as little about you as possible. We don't want your real name, your phone number, or your ID — and we don't ask for them. Your presence here is private by design, and we treat protecting it as a core feature, not a legal afterthought. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
1. Who we are
OurLatexLife ("we," "us") is operated from British Columbia, Canada. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@ourlatex.life.
2. What we collect
You give us:
- Email address: required for your account (login, security, and any digests you opt into). This is the only piece of personally identifying information we require.
- A handle and (optional) display name: chosen by you; pseudonyms are encouraged.
- Your age confirmation: at signup we verify you're 18+. We store only your birth year, not your full date of birth.
- Profile content you choose to add: bio, pronouns, optional location text, avatar, gear closet. All optional and self-chosen.
- Content you post: images and text, and the content rating and consent attestations attached to them.
We generate or collect automatically:
- Account and activity data: your posts, reactions, comments, follows, and similar, needed to operate the service.
- Limited technical/security data — e.g. data needed to keep your account secure, prevent abuse, and operate the site. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking, and we run no ad or analytics scripts from third parties.
We do NOT collect: real names, phone numbers, government ID, home address, or payment information (the service is free). We do not buy data about you or build advertising profiles.
3. Why we collect it (purposes)
- To create and operate your account and the community features.
- To keep you and the community safe — including content moderation and detecting illegal material (see §4).
- To verify you meet the 18+ age requirement.
- To contact you about your account, security, and (only if you opt in) activity digests.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
4. Safety, moderation, and legal obligations
To keep the community safe and lawful, uploaded images are automatically screened, including:
- Detection of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). We use detection tools and are legally required to report suspected CSAM to Canadian authorities (Cybertip.ca) and to preserve related material. This obligation overrides privacy preferences.
- Automated content classification to flag content for human moderator review.
- Metadata removal: we strip location (GPS) and other metadata from your images on upload, to protect you.
When you report content, your report is handled confidentially by our moderators.
6. Where your data lives
Your account data and database are hosted in Canada. Images are stored with an EU-based provider. Transactional email is processed by a US-based provider but never contains your images and involves only your email address.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data: while your account is active.
- If you delete your account: we deactivate immediately and permanently delete your content and personal information within 30 days, except where we're legally required to retain something (e.g. preserved material related to a CSAM report, or a hashed record to enforce a ban).
8. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated personal information (subject to §7 legal-retention exceptions).
- Withdraw consent for optional uses (e.g. email digests).
- Complain — to us, and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these, contact privacy@ourlatex.life. We'll respond within the timeframes the law requires.
9. Security
We protect your information with measures including: encryption of your email address at rest; secure password storage (argon2id); optional two-factor authentication; encrypted backups; access restricted to what's needed to operate and moderate the service; and serving member images only through expiring, authenticated links so they aren't publicly accessible. No system is perfectly secure, but data minimization is our first line of defense — we can't lose what we never collected.
10. Web browser privacy settings
"Do Not Track" is a privacy preference you can set in your browser if you do not want online services to collect and share certain kinds of information about your online activity. We do not track your online browsing activity on other sites, and we do not permit third-party services to track your activity on OurLatexLife.
11. Data breaches
If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected members and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law, and tell you what happened and what to do.
12. Children
This service is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Suspected underage accounts are removed.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll notify the community of meaningful changes and update the date above.
This policy works alongside our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.
